This will crack you up, and illustrate why the TABC raids are/were so stupid.
Recently, some of my buddies went to a hotel bar in the Dallas area to watch the Longhorns play LSU in the NCAA tournament.
The Longhorns lost. Big time. So, there were a lot of unhappy Texans in the bar. The biggest grouch was one of my friends, whose name is being withheld for the sake of his children.
Anyway, he was in the midst of cursing the tv, the University of Texas, etc, etc, etc, when out of nowhere some jackbooted thug from the TABC slapped a handcuff around his wrist and told him he was under arrest for public intoxication.
The thing you should know about my friend is that he is a reformed alcoholic, hasn't touch a drop of liquor in about 10 years. His attitude doesn't come from a bottle, it's all natural!
Of course the TABC wouldn't take HIS word for it. They insisted on a breathalizer. But, it only backed up his story. All he'd been drinking was iced tea that night, and not even the Long Island variety!
Now this story is somewhat embarassing to me personally, because it reveals the fact that I hang with a bunch of rowdies. But, I think it's also a pretty stinging indictment of the TABC's recent program. Don't they know that Texans don't need to drink to act stupid and obnoxious?!
Seriously, concentrate on the drunk drivers and leave the hotel bar patrons alone!
